What do Ranks 1–5 actually mean?
Every IHSS assessment comes down to a number between 1 and 5 for each task, and those rankings are the largest single factor in how your authorized hours are calculated. We wrote the plain-English guide to what each rank means, where the line falls between one rank and the next, and the published range each one carries. Rank 6 is a separate designation for paramedical services rather than a level of assistance.
