Live-In Provider
What it means in California's IHSS program, in plain English.
← All glossary terms
An IHSS provider who lives in the same home as the recipient they care for. Live-in providers can self-certify their status using Form SOC 2298, which excludes their IHSS wages from federal and state income tax under IRS Notice 2014-7 — though Social Security and Medicare (FICA) withholding still applies. Live-in providers are also exempt from Electronic Visit Verification check-in/check-out requirements that apply to non-live-in providers.
