This is a quieter kind of decline than the scenarios that involve safety risk — someone can still bathe and dress themselves, but cooking regularly, keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean, and doing laundry have become genuinely difficult, whether from fatigue, pain, mobility limits, or just not having the stamina they used to.

What This Falls Under

Meal preparation, the cleanup afterward, and laundry are Related Services — laundry has its own guideline, about an hour a week per household when the machines are in the home. General housecleaning is Domestic Services — a separate category with its own cap: up to 6 hours a month, prorated if the recipient shares a home with others (the exclusive rooms plus a share of common rooms, divided among household members).

Why the Domestic Services Cap Surprises People

Six hours a month sounds low next to categories like Personal Care, and it catches people off guard the first time they see it. It's a fixed program-wide limit, not something specific to any one county or assessment — so a lower number here doesn't mean the need wasn't taken seriously, it means this particular category has a ceiling that Related Services and Personal Care don't.
