Supplemental Security Income / State Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP)
What it means in California's IHSS program, in plain English.
← All glossary terms
SSI is a federal cash benefit for low-income individuals who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled. SSP is California's state-funded supplement added on top of the federal SSI payment. Many IHSS recipients also receive SSI/SSP, since both programs serve overlapping populations of aged, blind, and disabled Californians — but qualifying for one doesn't automatically qualify you for the other.
